Mac’s Apartment
Georgetown, Wash. D.C.
7:00 pm.
Mac puts her purchases away in her closet. She showers and as she changes her clothing, Mac notices roses on her bed. How did they get there? Unless, Palmer was out or Webb suddenly had an interest in her, the only other possibility was Harm. Mic didn’t have a key anymore. She wonders if Harm is playing a game, so she decides to go along with it. A little perfume in all the right spots and she was on her way. Mac goes to Carol’s and asks her to watch Jingo a little longer. It is ok with Carol because her daughter is bonding with him, and watching The Ugly Dachshund. A happy Mac left and started for Harm’s place.
Harm’s Loft Apartment
North of Union Station, Wash. D.C.
7:40 pm.
Harm almost didn’t make it home. He had gone into the store with an agenda, get food and get home. It almost worked, he got what he wanted in his cart until these women fans of a television show called JAG, started chasing him all over the store. He barely made it out with his clothing on. He gets into his apartment and puts the food away in the fridge. Harm quickly jumps in the shower and then changes into a navy blue cable knit sweater from his mother and a pair of jeans. A little cologne and there was a knock on the door. Mac waits for Harm to answer the door.
“Mac, come on in,” Harm said as he opens the door.
“Thank you.”
“Let me take your coat.”
“Sure. So did you get all your shopping finished?”
“Yes, have you?”
“Yeah. I just have to wrap your gift.”
Harm’s eyes visibly widen and Mac knows like a child that can’t wait for Christmas day, Harm will try to pry her for clues. But this Marine wasn’t going to say a word. God she hoped Harm wouldn’t try to be under handed and trick her into giving up her secret.
“So what’s on the menu Flyboy?”
“A surprise. Can I get you something to drink? I have a bottle of Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider on ice; I have water, hot chocolate, and coffee…”
“Ooh, save the Martinelli’s for dinner. I’ll have some hot chocolate.”
“Two hot chocolates coming up.”
Mac takes a seat on the sofa and waits for Harm.
“How’s Jingo,” Harm asked as he takes out some Hershey bars from the fridge and starts to melt them in a small pan.
“He’s fine. He’s been playing with Carol’s daughter. They were watching, The Ugly Dachshund, with popcorn and juice when I went to ask Carol if she could watch him a little longer.”
“Which movie is that?”
“The one where this Great Dane thinks he’s a Dachshund, because the house is full of them.”
“Right, never seen it,” Harm pours the milk into the pan and begins to whisk the two together.
“Need help Harm,” Mac asked.
"Can’t a Squid make hot chocolate? A Marine can," she thought to herself.
“No, got it covered, just waiting for it to cool.”
A couple minutes later he came out of the kitchen with two perfectly warmed Rabb family recipe hot chocolates. Harm hands one to Mac and takes a seat.
“What took so long? I was about to send a cold Marine in to help the frozen Squid.”
“Just taste it,” Harm said, killer smile flashing as he took another sip of his own cup.
Mac takes a sip and it’s like her taste buds are being sensuously caressed by warm velvety chocolate. She lets out a small moan at the sensations this warm drink is causing. Harm just sits there and watches her have a joy-gasm over his hot chocolate.
“Ohhh, this is so rich. This isn’t instant hot chocolate is it?”
“Nope, made from scratch from the Rabb family recipe, passed on to my mother from my grandmother. Since I don’t have a sister, it was passed on to me. See, a Squid can make hot chocolate.”
“I have to call and thank your mother for passing it on to you.”
“Do you want to carpool to the Bud and Harriet’s party?”
“I can’t. Harriet is picking me up on her way to go get a last minute gift for her parents. She forgot to send them something.”
"What I’m really not telling you is that Harriet is helping me with your gift," Mac thought to herself.
“Oh, um ok.”
"Oh, flyboy crash and burn, must get away before she sees hurt," Harm thought to himself.
“Sorry.”
“It’s ok. I understand. I’m going to go start dinner.”
“Need help?”
“No, I’m fine.”
Mac stood and went to the window to watch it snow. It looked peaceful and quiet out. Her mind began to drift back to warm and sunny Australia, and the time that Harm thought she was topless. A smile developed across her face. Harm started the vegetable stew on the stove. He added the beef stock after he got the vegetables in the pot. Mac seemed lost in thoughts of what happened during the rest of the Australian Trip, her smile long gone, when Harm snuck up behind her.
“A penny for your thoughts,” Harm said leaning against the other side of the window frame.
“Save your money Harm. I don’t want to be a rich woman.”
“Ok then, what are your thoughts of?”
“You don’t want to know.”
“Yes, I do or I wouldn’t have asked.”
“Just drop it. I don’t want to discuss it.”
“Fine. Did you get Chloe her gift in time for Christmas?”
“Oh yeah. I just hope she’s kept her greedy little hands out of it until it’s time. I sent it to her grandmother, but I’m sure she’s already been searching for it.”
“What did you get her?”
