Chapter 1

MacLeod's Antiques.
Seacouver, WA.
Saturday, April 25, 1992.

Duncan was in the office at the antique store plugging away at some paperwork he was behind at taking care of. Business had been good early on in the year.  in the office at the antique store plugging away at some paperwork. Richie was up early because he had errands to do and pick up some things for Tessa's latest creation. He stopped into the office.

"Hey Mac, I'm off to pick up the stuff Tessa needs and run some of my own errands."

"Ok Rich," he didn't even look up, "I'll see you later."

"Bye Mac."

Tessa was in her shop working on a new sculpture for Duncan. It was to be a gift for their anniversary about a month away. No harm in getting an early start on it. Duncan was under strict orders to stay out of her shop. He wasn't too happy about it but, he complied because if he didn't Tessa would surely take his head off. Immortal or not, besides he didn't want to get stuck on the couch again. He just got back on her good side after their last argument. Two hours later Richie came through the back door and straight into the kitchen. Tessa covered up her project and followed him.

"Did you get those supplies, Richie?"

"Yeah Tess, Where do you want them?"

"Good. Can you put the white box in your room and the other things on my workbench?"

"Yeah sure. You sure know how to pull Mac's chain, don't you? He doesn't suspect a thing right?"

"Yes, I do Richie. Not that I know of."

"What don't I suspect," Duncan said as he came into the kitchen holding his coffee mug.

Tessa caught her breath. Duncan raised an eyebrow.

"Oh nothing, Mac," she said.

"Richie, can you please finish your errands?"

"Oh, yeah sure Tessa."

"What are you hiding from me Tess," Duncan queried.

"Nothing. I've got to get back to my work."

She turned and scurried back to the shop. Tessa thought that was a close call.

She tried to drop small hints for the next two weeks of what important event was coming, but the daft Scot wasn't getting the hint. He suspected that Richie and Tessa were up to something. He was sure that it wasn't anyone's birthday. He checked all the calendars but there was nothing marked. Their anniversary was in two weeks and he wasn't remembering it. It was their 12th anniversary. Mac tried to grill Richie for help but got nowhere. Richie didn't even have it marked on his calendar, so that was no help to Duncan. At least Tessa's gift was ready and waiting.
